Early education in a consciousness way with much more fun

When we are at around 6 years old back in time, first time learning maths to add, subtract multiply. Not sure if anyone of us would have thought where exactly it is applicable in the real world, where it should be used or how it us useful. Even if we had thought their was no proper tools or techniques as it was limited and not accessible due to various factors. I think many of us just learnt it because it is either teacher or parents were asking us to learn or because other kids were learning and to score good marks. Happened to me as well when I was at school there was no much practical exposure to relate to the real world and was very curious to know everything. Now a days I can see lot’s of schools simulating a shop at school where kids get involved in each role, which is great and fantastic way of teaching. But still I think as a parent we need to involve kids giving them opportunity to explore the real world and to make then understand how to apply simple maths in various places. I know they would learn anyways when they grow older, but i think any skills we learn needs to be learnt in a conscious way otherwise there is no value of learning. Examples I can think we can incorporate and add value to their learning.

1) While filling the fuel you can always explain about litres and the cost per litre and ask them to multiple to get the cost.
2) Giving them money to buy any household items and ask them if they would get back change (here they can learn subtraction).
3) Addition – count trees, or count tress of a type, count ducks etc

What you people do to encourage your kids to learn more practical or any ideas please share??
